#mrdcaperodd Kitchen!

It’s finally Friday and the last day of what has felt like the longest short week ever! You too? I honestly can’t believe I am writing this post for a number of reasons - 1. that we’re in this stage of the project and 2. that I even get to design a cape house for my family in the first place! But here we are, ready to talk about the details of the #mrdcaperodd kitchen. Over the last few months I’ve shared a bunch of details on IG about the layout and finishes but thought I’d make an official blog post with all of the sources for those who have asked!

When we first started talking about ripping out the existing kitchen, I immediately had a vision for a clean yet beachy white space including the appliances. Side note: when we first bought the house we were going to leave the kitchen and renovate it later but our contractor convinced us it was the right call to do now and he was right. Talk about rot when they removed the dishwasher!! Anyway, that white kitchen coupled with brass never left my head and is pretty much what you see above. The only thing we decided to change was the island color which I’m excited about.

In terms of paint colors, I’m leaning toward BM chantilly lace for all walls and trim and for the cabinets, since they aren’t fully custom, we’re choosing colors that are available through the manufacturer. The perimeter cabinets will all be white but the island will be SW monorail silver which reads as a soft gray/blue. Another detail that I’m incorporating on the island is brass caps on the legs. Although our legs won’t be free standing like these, this kitchen by Jean Stoffer Design is what I’m thinking.

As I mentioned, I wanted the appliances to be white too to continue that beachy, relaxed feel so we opted for the GE Cafe line for the range, hood, and wine fridge. I love the matte finish mixed with the gold tones on the handles. We’re paneling the refrigerator and dishwasher since they will be in line of sight from the front door. The rest of the hardware will be brass with a mix of knobs and pulls on the perimeter and modernized bin pulls on the island and bar area. The faucet will be polished nickel which feels classic to me and is a nice break from the brass.

In terms of lighting, I’m adding a ceramic flushmount above the sink and two big brass pendants over the island. The original pendants I wanted were discontinued (should have bought when I first saw them!) and I still mourn those but the replacement has a cool dotted detail around that bottom that I’m into. The sink is an undermount white fireclay which is stronger than ceramic and more durable. Again the white kept it relaxed and coastal to me. Finally since we want the house to be as low maintenance as possible since it’s a second home, we’re going with quartz for the counters. I chose a silestone product called Eternal Statuario.

I almost forgot the stools! There are SO many options when it comes to counter stools but I’ve always loved the stripe and woven texture of the ones we chose. Also since the backs will face the front door, these give some interest to that view. There you have my thoughts and ideas and here are all of the sources!
